In December 2015, I started working as a freelance producer in the Washington, D.C. bureau of ARD German Public Television. ARD is a pillar of Germany’s far-reaching public broadcasting system and a leader in hard news and documentaries. The D.C. office is one of the network’s largest offices abroad. As part of the European Broadcasting Union, ARD programs reach more than 100 million people.
In July 2016, I got hired as a junior staff producer. I work closely with the correspondents Ina Ruck, Ingo Zamperoni, Stefan Niemann and Sandra Ratzow. With its Washington, D.C., location, one of the bureau’s prime focuses is U.S. politics and its impact on the international community.
For example, I produced two short documentaries on the crucial Democratic and Republican presidential primaries in New Hampshire and also worked on feature length documentaries on both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. But I don’t just do feature news stories. Rather, routinely I produce daily and breaking news stories, such as from the 2016 Democratic and Republican National conventions or during the San Bernardino and Dallas shootings.
