For one of my graduate-level classes at CU-Boulder, CU News Corps, I wrote an investigative story on the likely impact of unemployment trends on the outcome of the 2014 midterm election in Colorado. I based my investigation on 20 years of unemployment data and election results. The Denver Post picked up the story and published it in its Sunday edition on March 30, 2014, as the opener of the “Perspectives” section. In April 2015, the piece was named a finalist in the SPJ Region 9 Mark of Excellence Awards for online in-depth news reporting.
